[barbara kopple]

Barbara Kopple has won two Academy Awards, for HARLAN COUNTY, USA and AMERICAN DREAM. She has won DGA awards, Emmys, Sundance Festival prizes and a list of critics and film festival honors that would take pages to list. She has the unique ability to allow her material to drive the tone and style of her storytelling, which places her films beyond category. They range from the dramatically powerful to the light-hearted and funny. She has also made insightful films about subjects as diverse as Woody Allen (WILD MAN BLUES), Mike Tyson (FALLEN CHAMP) and the Dixie Chicks (SHUT UP AND SING). She was also asked to take part in the ESPN 30for30 series and did so with the documentary short THE HOUSE OF STEINBRENNER.  Most recently Barbara premiered her documentary GUN FIGHT, the exploration of the complex issues surrounding America's gun culture and the heated debate over firearm violence, on HBO.

Barbara’s commercial work includes a series of humorous hidden camera like spots for Sprint featuring real kids, and emotional spots for Ford’s “Race for the Cure.” Barbara has also directed numerous spots for other brands, including Dove, Reebok, State Farm, Target, and Intel. She has also directed episodic TV and narrative features, including HAVOC starring Anne Hathaway.
