Barbara Kopple has won two Academy Awards for Harlan County, USA and American Dream. She has won DGA awards, Emmy’s, Sundance Festival prizes and endless critic and film festival honors. She has the unique ability to allow her material to drive the tone and style of her storytelling, which places her films beyond category. They range from the dramatically powerful to the light-hearted and funny. She has also made insightful films about subjects as diverse as Woody Allen (Wild Man Blues), Mike Tyson (Fallen Champ) and the Dixie Chicks (Shut Up and Sing). She was asked to take part in the ESPN 30 for 30 series and did so with the documentary short, The House of Steinbrenner. Barbara premiered her documentary, Gun Fight, on the exploration of the complex issues surrounding America's gun culture and the heated debate over firearm violence, on HBO. Barbara’s most recent film, A Force of Nature, tells the inspiring story of how one committed person can make a difference and help others do the same. Barbara’s commercial work includes a series of humorous hidden camera like spots for Sprint featuring real kids, and emotional spots for Ford’s “Race for the Cure.” Barbara has also directed numerous spots for other brands including Dove, Bank of America, Reebok, State Farm, Target, and Intel. She has also directed episodic TV and narrative features, including Havoc starring Anne Hathaway. |
